A new online website is expected to be launched in the next few months. The site intends to compete with online loose diamond titans, like Blue Nile and James Allen, by offering quality diamonds at an even lower price. The site will allow customers to buy engagement rings and diamonds at near-wholesale prices. Stay tuned for more details as they develop, but this could be a game changer! Wholesale diamonds may not only be available in Denver, LA, and New York now.
The Denver diamonds industry just took a giant leap forward. We had to see it to believe it, but here it is. After several years of planning, cutting, and polishing, one of the most important diamonds to hit the US market is finally here. This diamond is a whopping 44cts of pure beauty. If the diamond’s sheer size alone is not impressive enough, the diamond is also certified through GIA as an extremely rare “Fancy Intense Yellow” with a VS1 clarity grading.
Diamonds of this stature don’t come along every day. In fact, only about 1 in every 10,000 diamonds is considered to be “fancy yellow” in color, regardless of size. Far fewer naturally mined diamonds are considered to be “fancy intense yellow” in color. In fact, most diamond brokers will never see a diamond of this size, color, and quality throughout their entire careers.
This yellow diamond is comparable to one of the most famous diamonds in the world, the famed “Golden Eye Diamond.” The Golden Eye diamond is ranked among the top twelve diamonds in the world because of its incredible purity and color – not so different from the above diamond. The Golden Eye diamond has a finished total weight of 43.5ct and is graded through GIA as “Fancy Intense Yellow” and “Internally Flawless (IF).”
Although the prices of natural colored diamonds have continued to rise for the past 35 years, The Golden Eye diamond is only expected to fetch around $17 million at auction. While not quite the same clarity as the Golden Eye, our diamond is currently being offered to the public at an incredible price of around $3 million. While you won’t find wholesale diamonds of this caliber at Shane Co any time soon, arrangements can be made to view the diamond right here in Denver.

Consumers in today’s economy are searching for more ways to get more diamond for their money when they are shopping around various Denver Jewelers. We’ve provided 5 suggestions to help you get the most bang for your buck in your search for your Denver engagement diamonds.
1) Don’t Do Retail – Retail stores can’t offer the same pricing as a diamond wholesaler. Retail requires higher overhead costs to pay for retail store fronts, advertising, and employees. Diamond brokers and wholesalers in Denver don’t have these same requirements and can pass the lower costs to you.
2) Cut Creates Fire – A diamond’s cut is one of the most important factors of diamond beauty, although it’s often overlooked by buyers. A well-cut diamond will reflect light better, making the diamond appear to be whiter than it would be otherwise.
A well-cut diamond will almost always have more fire, brilliance, and life than a poorly cut diamond will – regardless of its color or clarity rating. Investing in a well-cut diamond will offer a better value.
3) Warm It Up with Fluo – A natural phenomenon known as fluorescence can be your friend. Put a black light to a diamond with fluorescence and it will light up like a midnight disco (usually with a blue tone). Fluorescent diamonds are generally less expensive within the industry because fluorescence is considered to be an undesirable trait.
Oddly, GIA surveys show that most buyers prefer the appearance of diamonds with some fluorescence, regardless of the negative implication among many industry professionals. A slight blue fluorescence can counteract some of the yellow within a diamond, making it look whiter to the human eye.
4) Buying Under the “Bench” – Although they may appear to be similar in size, diamonds of similar weight can vary in price slightly if one is considered to be below the “benchmark” or “consumer threshold” size. For example, a diamond that is 1.95cts may be slightly less expensive than a 2.01ct diamond simply because the 1.95ct is priced using a slightly lower scale.
As such, these diamonds are highly desired and are often sold the day they hit the market. A little luck and timing may be required for this tip.
5) Keep it Clean…Enough – Clarity is an important factor in a diamond’s beauty, and therefore price, but don’t go crazy with the clarity if you’re looking to get a better value. For example, an SI1 diamond and a VS1 diamond will vary greatly in price; but the quality differences will be obvious. On the other hand, a VS1 diamond will look very similar to a VVS2 diamond to an untrained eye, even under a microscope. For many buyers, it’s the difference in clarity between the two does not justify the increased costs.

Natural fancy colored diamonds are some of the rarest and most coveted gems in the world. Fancy colored diamonds are favorites of celebrities and elite buyers around the world. It is estimated that less than one in every 10,000 mined diamonds are considered fancy colored. Natural fancy colored diamonds are rarely found in most jewelry stores. Here is a brief education about fancy colored diamonds in Denver.
VALUE FACTORS
Fancy colored diamonds are graded and valued based upon different factors than a white diamond typically would be. In the case of fancy colored diamonds, the color and intensity of the diamonds are the primary influences in the rarity and value of colored diamonds. Natural fancy colored diamonds are created in every color of the rainbow; however some of the colors (such as red, pink, and blue) are extremely rare and therefore more valuable. Fancy yellow diamonds are the most common of the fancy diamonds.
NATURE’S PAINT BRUSH
Natural fancy colored diamonds are created by Mother Nature deep within the earth. During the diamonds’ development, trace atoms of various elements and minerals are trapped inside the diamond’s atomic structure. The color of the diamond is affected by the type of element within the diamond.
The color intensity rating of fancy colored diamonds are rated by GIA as follows:
- Fancy Light
- Fancy
- Intense
- Vivid
THROW OUT YOUR C’S
The clarity of fancy colored diamonds bears less influence on the value of the diamond compared to a white diamond; however clarity is still important to allow brilliancy. Fancy colored diamonds are generally cut to retain maximum brilliancy and weight, and therefore they may be cut differently than a white diamond would be. Inclusions on blemishes in colored diamonds can sometimes enhance the appearance and color of a fancy colored diamond.
ENHANCED FANCY COLORED DIAMONDS
Natural white diamonds can are sometimes treated with high temperature techniques to simulate conditions found in nature. By introducing various elements during the treatment process, a white diamond can be converted into a fancy colored diamond. This process is often called High Pressure Temperature Treatment (HPTT) or irradiation. Treated fancy colored diamonds are far less rare and valuable than a natural colored diamond. Treated fancy diamonds can offer a great value for those who are looking for a colored diamond on a budget.
WHERE TO BUY FANCY COLORED DIAMONDS
Few jewelry stores in Denver sell (or have access to) fancy colored diamonds; however a few high end Denver jewelry shops or diamond brokers will be able to help you. If you are looking for a museum-quality colored diamond, a national fancy colored diamond broker may be your only option to buy one of these masterpieces.
